Canopy by Hilton Makes West Coast Debut

July 9, 2018

Canopy by Hilton has launched its first property on the West Coast with the opening of the Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District. Located in a revitalized, industrial section of the Oregon city, the 153-room hotel draws inspiration from its surroundings, courtesy of a design from New York-based MARKZEFF .

Slated for LEED Gold certification, the hotel is housed within a structure crafted by locally based firm ZGF Architects that serves as a symbolic bridge between the old and new volumes of the Pearl District. Adorned with casement windows on the ground floor, the hotel façade reflects the qualities of oiled bronze as its golden hue changes over the course of the day. Industrial finishes include steel metal beams, brick walls, and concrete flooring, which complement the interior alongside a medley of organic artwork and a rotating exhibition space. A two-story winter garden adds another natural element into the hotel. Each guestroom is anchored by an interpretation of a canopy with beds made from timber that resemble Douglas fir, Oregon’s state tree.

Canopy Central will anchor the property’s F&B offerings, while nearly 1,100 square feet of meeting space includes small- and medium-sized rooms as well as four private meeting rooms. Event spaces will be drenched in natural light via floor-to-ceiling windows and the skylight in the winter garden.
